X-Box360 vs. PS3

Posted by Philip Woods on November 25th, 2009

Interestingly enough, practically everyone that’s considering purchasing a new gaming console usually ends up asking which is better, the PlayStation 3 or the X-Box360. However, you ideally need to take a good look at both the platforms in order to determine what features each one has, and what it is that sets them apart. Remember, both platforms make use of the very latest technology, including graphics and audio. Also, even though the specifications for both platforms may seem to be practically identical on paper, in reality you may find that there’s quite a big difference in terms of reliability as well as performance.

While there are some games you will find for the Playstation 3 that you won’t find on the X-Box, overall, the 360 has a greater variety of games, and far more titles. Many titles can be found for both gaming platforms, and the cost of new games is very close for both consoles. You can play DVDs on both, but the PS3 has the new Blue Ray, and is better able to play older games, from other Playstation consoles.

On the downside, even with Blue Ray, PlayStation has always encountered problems when it comes to playing movies, and as such, if you really must have a Blue Ray player, then you should simply go out and buy one. Of course this by no means suggests that the PlayStation 3 is an inferior gaming console, but instead, it just means that many people seem to have switched over to the X-Box360 simply because they don’t require all the extra bells and whistles.

You can find more detailed product descriptions about both products online, and the debate over which one is the best will surely continue. You really need to do some researching, find out what new products may be in store for each console. It is often hard for any gamer to purchase a new gaming platform version, since newer designs are constantly being created, it makes many cringe whenever an important gaming announcement comes out

One of the main things to bear in mind if you’re considering a PS3, is that it has a built in Linux computer which of course makes it easy for you to go online by means of you using your TV and your phone line. In that respect, it’s cheaper to buy a PlayStation 3, rather than forking out a pile of money on the various components. On the other hand, if you simply want a top class gaming console with a ton of games to keep you amused, and you want it all for a reasonable price, then you should seriously consider the X-Box360. If you do, then of course you should ideally choose the deluxe package which includes an extra 60 GB of memory, rather than buying the basic or arcade edition.

Of course only you can decide which platform to buy, but no matter which one you choose, don’t forget to compare the prices before you buy. Also make sure that you know where you stand in terms of warranties and guarantees. You should also determine whether or not you’ll be responsible for shipping and handling charges. Having said that; many retail outlets do of course have websites, and if you can find your console of choice online, then it is possible to have it shipped directly to the store, which of course means that you then won’t need to worry about any shipping charges. Above all, if you follow this route, you’ll also have the advantage in that it is easy for you to contact a company representative should anything go wrong further down the line, rather than spending hours on the phone trying to explain the problem. Also, if something does go wrong, it will be a lot easier for you to return the console, considering you won’t need to ship it anywhere.

Where To Buy Dvds For A Small Price

Posted by Jon "blitzer" Moreno on November 9th, 2009

With so many ways to buy DVDs and so many different DVDs to choose from, it should be hard to find one of your favorites. There are many places you can rent DVDs and its like getting to try it before you buy it.

There are so many places on line that you can buy DVDs for cheap prices. There are used DVDs and new DVDs they range from different prices depending on if the movie is new, old or even just a rare movie.

There are also many places that will ship DVDs for cheap as well as places that will combine shipping if you get more than one of their items. It is so easy to get DVDs on line if you have a credit card and if you buy them at local stores you wont have to have a credit card. It is great to own DVDs because it is nice to be able to watch something different other than reruns on the television.

You can go to places that rent DVDs and they usually sell pre-viewed movies for great prices. And they usually have the DVDs for rent that they also have for sale. DVDs are very fun to watch and fun to own. I personally have my own collection and own over two hundred DVDs.

Some people prefer not to watch television so they usually wont watch or buy a DVDs. There are even some people who don’t even know what a DVD is because they have never in their entire life watched or have seen a DVD disk.

If you choose to get a DVD make sure it has very minimal scratches on it and that you have already seen that movie because you don’t want to get something that you don’t enjoy or like. Some people choose to burn their own DVDs offline and this sometimes still costs to buy and download the DVD.

Before you buy DVD and BluRAy online, make sure you check DVDfort.com to hunt for Ebay’s hidden treasures just like the CSI in Bluray which at times offered for less than $5

Blu Ray HD Players … A Must Have For Your HD Home Theater!

Posted by Gerald Hice on August 10th, 2009

I was one of those people who was enthusiastically looking for this player after its bulletin, and quickly purchased one of the Blu Ray HD Players as fast as I could. It is a n excellent HD player, with quick load times and wonderful video quality.

Disastrously, it seemed to be a let-down in the audio department, with dropouts and no support for complicated codecs. There had been a promised update to come out in May, which back in February looked like a long time.

Finally when May arrived, Samsung eventually delivered the guaranteed firmware 1.3 upgrade for their Blu Ray HD Players. In addition to decoding multi-channel TrueHD, the BD-UP5000 can now bit stream each codec to an HDMI 1.3 capable receiver. Additionally, the player is now Blu-ray Profile 1.1.

Due to the newest firmware up-grade on the Blu Ray HD Players, those earlier critical remarks about the unit’s audio restrictions have been dissolved. Nearly overnite, the BD-UP5000 has gone from a poor unit, to one of the best-performing Blu Ray HD Players you can get. It has always had a beautiful picture, for both Blu Ray and HD DVD, but now handles the latest audio codecs to.

With all the Blu Ray HD Players on the market, this device is now almost faultless! The HQV Reon provides a fantastic improvement from your earlier DVD stack, and the device supports Blu-Ray and HD-DVD format at its local 1080p 24fps with advanced audio. Along with these breakthrough features it just can’t get any advanced than that!

The price on Blu Ray HD Players was around $800 back in 2008, which was a validated price if you did not want to restrict your home movie purchases to one side of the HD war. When HD-DVD lost the war, the Blu Ray HD Players price dropped significantly and became competitively priced even against basic Blu-ray players. However, the price could be going back up now that the audio issues are fixed.

If you are just entering the HD DVD market, these units are an excellent choice. If you already have an HD-DVD selection of movies, then Blu Ray HD Players is a must-have!

Ways to Convert WMV to DVD Format with Quickness and Ease

Posted by Hal Laferte on July 24th, 2009

Windows Media Video, or WMV format files, are digital video files associated with Microsoft’s Windows Media Player. WMV is a video codec designed by Microsoft for their Window’s operating system.

WMV files are widely used, but are also most commonly protected by DRM, or “Digital Rights Management”. This should come as no surprise–Microsoft has always been strict in protecting their content as well as supporting their customers with this protection.

You are likely already familiar with DVDs, these optical devices changed the way we store data and view video media. The file format of a DVD is VOB, which stands for Version Object Base.

An explanation of VOB files is beyond the scope of this article, but a study of the software part of the DVD format is essentially a study of the VOB container file format. With CDs or Compact Discs becoming virtually obsolete with the emergence of high capacity storage HD DVDs and Blueray discs, more and more video editing tools are geared to conversion between these two highly popular media formats, WMV to DVD.

Streaming video on the internet is a business fraught with copyrights violations and rampant file-sharing. Its highly likely that video downloaded from the internet will be in .wmv format. And if you want to put together a DVD as a collection of all your WMV files, you need a WMV to DVD converter.

To do this you’ll need to unlock the DRM protection on the WMV file and then burn the file to a DVD using any DVD burning software. It would be pretty cool to find some software that could both unlock the DRM and then immediately burn the files to DVD.

The Aplus WMV to DVD converter will take convert of footage from multiple movies and episodic files to standard MPEG2 Video and burn it into a DVD seamlessly.

I am hoping that this article has been helpful and useful to you in converting WMV To DVD.

Ways to Rip WMV to DVD Format with Quickness and Ease

Posted by Kendrick Rapin on July 24th, 2009

Windows Media Video, or WMV format files, are digital video files associated with Microsoft’s Windows Media Player. WMV is a video codec designed by Microsoft for their Window’s operating system.

WMV files often carry a DRM, or digital rights management, protection. This is quite common because Microsoft is a company which tends to protect its content and provides support to users for further protection.

A Digital Video Disc, more commonly known as a DVD, is capable of holding large amounts of data including high quality video. Versioned Object Base, known as VOB, is the file format of a DVD.

This would likely involve unlocking the DRM protection, and then burning the unprotected WMV files onto a DVD using a DVD authoring tool. Needless to say, it would be nifty if you had a tool which included both functions, i.e. unlocking DRM locked WMV files and then burning them onto a DVD.

Aplus WMV DVD Converter can do just that, converting footage to MPEG Layer 2 Video before burning it quickly to a DVD.

I am hoping that this article has been helpful and useful to you in converting WMV To DVD.

CD Replication Speed & Systemic Efficiency

Posted by John Sommer on July 3rd, 2009

If you’ve ever burned CDs on your home computer, then you know that the process can take a while. You copy files into the working folder, and write them directly to the CD-ROM. Depending on what kind of files you’re copying and the speed of your CD burner, this process can take a minute or more ? just to write one disk. When you factor in the time to physically swap out the media, doing a big CD duplication job can be major headache.

One major source of the slowdown on do it yourself CD-Replication is the bus speed of your computer; the speed at which your computer can send data to your CD Drive. Look at it like this ? if you’re writing a 300 MB CD image, you’re going to be loading that image into your system memory (which is fairly fast), then shoving it down a very narrow straw to your CD writing hardware; the bus speeds have improved considerably since CD writers became ubiquitous, but it’s still a major slow down.

Another source of slowdown in home CD burning is data integrity checking. Each time data is written from the CD drive to the optical disk, it reads back the data to make sure there are no errors. If any are found, it backs up and rewrites the data all over again. This is alright for a home enthusiast using a CD-ROM writing application, but it has some serious overhead.

That overhead comes from the file comparison ? it reads the data it just wrote and compares it to the source file to make sure there aren’t differences. That takes a lot of memory, and, well, it’s sending data back up that narrow data pipe between your motherboard and the CD-ROM drive.

Professional CD replication uses a different procedure entirely. First, when a professional duplicator takes the initial data file, they run the data integrity check when making what’s called a master image. This means that the read-write-verify process is done once per job, rather than once per disk; the first load up takes more time, but burning each copy is faster.

Second, their gear has a much higher transmission rate going to the CD-burning equipment itself; it’s comparable to the data transmission speeds between different components on your motherboard; the real limitation is how fast they can move the laser that burns the image.

Third, a replicator rack is a far more efficient way to burn CDs. It can burn up to 100 at a time, and many of these racks feed the disks assembly-line style through a label printer. Each CD-ROM image created this way takes about 25 to 30 seconds per disk for the entire process, which is fully automated from start to finish. The system even includes ‘tappers’ that automatically insert the disks into sleeves.

By now it should be apparent that professional CD duplication is a much more efficient process than burning disks at home. High end equipment has faster processing speeds, and automates the process to load more disks at once. But even relatively small professional replicating setups can burn 20 disks at once, and are affordable for a small business.

Beatrix from The Movie Kill Bill

Posted by William Blu on June 26th, 2009

Quentin Tarantino’s movie “Kill Bill” & “Kill Bill 2″ has been a worldwide hit and has amassed over 180 million dollars. This face smashing, sword swinging, jump kicking, action packed adventure of a movie has captivated millions of people. The story, the characters and the martial arts are world class.

The movie’s star character is the deadly assassin, Beatrix Kiddo. Preformed by Uma Thurman, Beatrix is an unstoppable force that defeats every enemy she encounters. The blonde hair martial artist is a deadly assassin who is one of the top killers in all the world.

Beatrix is also a former member of a group called the ‘Deadly Viper Assassination Squad’ which is a group of top-notch, elite assassins. Bill who is the leader of the ‘Dead Viper Assassination Squad’ was Beatrix’s best friend, master and girlfriend (lover).

Ms. Kiddo also acquired her martial arts skills from Bill. But she got her most deadly training from a super martial artist named Pai Mei. Pai Mei is possibly the best martial artist in the world and he teaches Beatrix everything he knows.

That also includes the most deadly blow in all of martial arts called the “Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique”. When things went sour between Beatrix and Bill, she actually used the “Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique” to kill Bill. Among being a great martial artist in hand to hand combat, Kiddo is an expert with a samurai sword.

In the Kill Bill Movies, she was able to defeat countless enemies using only her Hattori Hanzo sword. Beatrix Kiddo goes by two different names in the Kill Bill saga. If you’ve seen the first movie, you will notice that her real name (Beatrix Kiddo) is actually censored. It wasn’t until the second movie, you learn Beatrix’s name.

While she was in the “Deadly Viper Assassination Squad”, she was known as “Black Mamba”, which is a very poisonous snake in Africa. As I mentioned earlier, Beatrix Kiddo is a former member of the “Deadly Viper Assassination Squad”. The reason why she left the secret assassination unit was 100% due to her impregnation.

She didn’t what her child exposed to the wicked lifestyle she was living. So without word to the other members of the squad, including Bill, she just left. As you see, Beatrix Kiddo’s life is very complicated. She is purely a killer at heart and will do nearly anything to complete her missions. Even though I touched on many aspects about Beatrix, there is more I haven’t even touched on. I guess the best thing you could do is watch the movies for yourself.

Drum Instruction DVD: Increase Your Playing Level

Posted by Oniel Chester on June 24th, 2009

We do not have roll over minutes in our house. It is good to skip days sometime to let you family know that you are thinking about them. As any drummer knows, it is easy to get lost in time when practicing, especially when playing to music. So when your wife comes in and points to her watch, you smile and say, “Yes Dear.”

And most of the really successful speed drummers obviously did not want to give away ALL their secrets (understandably). So, I did what I could. And after spending 3 weeks (1-2 hours per session, 4-6 days per week), I managed to improve my speed by about 60-70 beats per minute. I really didn’t expect to win though; since several of Mike Mangini’s Berklee students were to be part of the regional competition.

A typical drumstick has a tip, shoulder, shaft and butt. The tip, also referred to as bead, is the top-most part that strikes the drum. Traditionally, the tip is made of the same hard wood as the rest of the stick.

The sound that you like and your drum’s best sound may not be the same. Let the drum have it’s way. Here are a couple of tips to deal with drum noise while practicing.

Depending on the type of music, begin your solo to match the flow of the music. You might not want to perform a hard and fast solo to slow, smooth, easy listening jazz nor drum softly to hard, power-driven metal. Make your solo tasteful. Let it make a statement and signature of what you are creating. Utilize all the instruments of your drum set such as your snare drum, bass drum, toms, cymbals and other instruments that accompany the drum set. The final step in developing a solo.

However, six months is not an ideal time. If you have been playing the drum too often lately, consider changing it even though you may have changed it four months back. Signs that should tell you it is now the time for you to change are indents and cracks.

Well, I asked around a bit and was surprised to learn that the history of second line is a bit cloudy. Nobody can seem to agree on how it evolved, I heard stories about there being a line of musicians and staff that marched behind the mourners (second line) at a funeral parade in New Orleans. Apparently the musicians would play funeral marches on the way to the funeral and more livelier pieces on the return home.

Drummers like Zigaboo Modeliste and Johnny Vidacovich mixed second line with syncopated funk, developing a style called “second-line funk drumming”. This style was popularized in many famous bands that came from New Orleans like the Meters (see below). Second line drumming often involves a 3/2 son clave not dissimiliar to the Bo Diddley beat although it doesn’t necessarily always follow that rule, and Second line beats are also called “Street Beats”.

Learn How to Play Drums DVD: Improve Your Playing

Posted by John Taylor on June 20th, 2009

The “next day” came, and soon it was my turn to see how fast I could play. I did my best and was completely shocked when I ended up winning with a “score” of 905 singles in 60-seconds (with absolutely no practice, and no idea “how or what” I was doing). Nevertheless, winning put me in the northeast regional finals elimination round - 3 weeks later at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Sometimes the drum heads may even puncture when the hit is hard. If all this still does not provide you with good reasons to go for a new one at regular intervals, then you should realize that once it becomes weak it is difficult for you to play the roll or the fast chops. As a drummer you should change your drum heads after every six months.

After the seating of the heads, the brass drum lug screws should be fitted properly and subsequently the tom toms have to be mounted. While assembling the different toms, it is important to consider the lengths of the lug screws as larger toms require longer lug screws and smaller ones require smaller screws. The other pieces that have to be assembled include the bass pedal and stands such as high hat stand, cymbal stands and snare stands.

A drum solo is an individual’s creative expression when playing the drum kit. It is the ability to create a percussive piece that adds depth to a song and to showcase one’s talent. Many famous drummers such as Billy Cobham, Neil Pert, Elvin Jones, and Jon Bonham have highlighted their expertise by performing incredible pieces. Great solos can be performed by anyone as long as there is room for imagination.

This is your spotlight where you can command everyone’s attention. Make sure there is a purpose for each stroke of the drum stick. Your drum set will not play by itself, you are the creator, make some noise. It is not necessary to create a masterpiece performing a solo. By keeping the solo precise and to the point, your creation can be of any length given the flow of the performance. Now is the time to take your listeners on a percussive journey that they will never forget.

Cost: An important determining factor would be the amount you are willing to spend. Drum sets cost anywhere from $100 up to a custom built set of $6,000 or more. Most sets do not come equipped with hardware such as cymbal stands, cymbals, and kick pedals which can add to the cost, so it is best figure out your reason for the purchase and all that you need to complete the full drum kit.

BUT, I did win; with a score of 956 beats in 60 seconds! It wasn’t my best score up to that point, but at least I was now going to the International Fastest Drummer finals qualifications and NAMM. And I had about 2 months to practice! An important part of drum playing is relaxed breathing. A good warm-up, whether you are sitting or standing, is to take a slow, deep breath, filling the lungs with air.
